Where to put Trap Location Cards

When setting up your new trap, it’s critical to find the right location, so it’s important to do your research before getting started.

The Trap Location Cards, included in your Smart Trap Kit are a great way to find the best location for your trap. They also give local pests a taste of the paste inside your trap.

You’re looking for safe, hidden locations. A rodent needs to feel safe enough to stop and investigate the cards, so they shouldn’t be out in the open where the rodent would be vulnerable. And just because you’ve seen a rat run along a wall or fence line, it doesn’t always mean they’ll stop there to feed. You could try setting them under your house, in a shed or even in your ceiling. It could also be as simple as selecting a tree with more cover, or a location with little foot traffic.

Find spots that are away from competing food sources such as compost bins, fruiting trees, or animal feed. Remove or restrict access to these alternative food sources for pests as much as possible. Read our helpful advice on how to do this here.

If you don’t see any pest interaction with your Trap Location Cards after three nights, don’t worry! Take a look at our article here for the next steps to take.
