The Smart Cap Battery

The battery that powers the Smart cap attached to your A24 is designed to use minimal battery life. One battery should keep the Smart cap powered for 2+ years of trapping data!

Our Smart Cap uses a CR2477 battery. If you live in New Zealand you can buy a replacement from our website here. If you live outside of New Zealand we’d recommend replacing it using a Panasonic CR2477 battery -  you can easily buy them online in battery specialist suppliers or in most camera stores. If you're struggling to find a battery you can still use your trap, the A24 is fully gas powered and will keep up the good work even while you wait for your new battery to arrive.

You won't get a low battery notification to know if your battery has died, you will just find your Smart Cap to be fully unresponsive. Remove it from the trap and give it a shake, even pop the current battery in and out again. If you can't get any lights to show up it means you're likely in need of a new battery.

How to replace the battery

To ensure your Smart cap will keep working for you year after year we’ve designed it so the battery can be easily replaced. Once your battery runs out, you can purchase one at the locations mentioned above and then follow these steps:

 To replace the battery:

  1.  Unscrew the black cap off the A24 trap.
  2. Replace the lid on the Automatic Paste Pump and remove it from the trap (If you're using one of our pumps)
  3. Remove the Cap from the lure shroud, this can be a bit tricky. We recommend using a flat screwdriver or even a coin to lever the plastic lugs apart. Don't worry, they're sturdy!
  4. Pop the top of the cap off
  5.  Remove the battery, the easiest method is to smack the battery side into the palm of your hand. The battery should just pop out.
  6.  Hold the cap like in the image above. Place the new battery into the same spot, ensuring the side with the writing is facing towards you. A red light will flash.
  7.  Replace the top of the cap, ensuring both sides click in
  8.  Screw the Smart Cap back onto the Trap

And you're good to go!
